The golf grip, more in the palm or more in the fingers

Should you hold the club more in the fingers or more in the palm?

The golf grip is a personal thing. It must feel comfortable and produce the ball flight that is desired. If you are looking to produce a draw shot, you would want a more strong grip with the hands turned more to the right on the grip and if you would like to produce a face shot, you would turn your hands more left on the grip. A Draw shots produces a more left to right curve and a fade shot produces a more right to left curve for a right handed golfer.

The idea of an 5 finger grip/baseball grip, the overlap grip, and the interlocking grip, is all a matter of personal preference. I would say that less people play with a 5 finger grip on tour and that you can produce more club head speed with the overlap or interlocking grip.

Once you have these basics down, the question becomes how tight and how far in the fingers should the grip be placed. As far as grip strength, don't strangle the club but also don't hold it so light if flies out of your hands. Start with a medium grip pressure.

When it comes to in the palm or in the fingers, keep this in mind. A more palm grip with tend to not let the club head roll over as much and it will also produce less swing speed. Start with the club more in your fingers. I think with the club more in the fingers than the palm you can whip the club through the ball and square the clubface with the ball at impact.
